Stroke what is it!

There are two types of stroke. The most common is caused by a blood clot, blocking a blood vessel supplying part of the brain. The other is caused if a blood vessel in the brain ruptures, resulting in an area of the brain being ‘squashed’ by the pressure of the blood.

In both types of stroke, the signs and symptoms are very similar and an area of the brain will die, a stroke can happen to a person of any age.

Possible signs and symptoms:

Facial Weakness – Can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?

Arm Weakness – Can the person raise both arms?

Speech problems – Can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?

Test all three signs! – Call 999 if they fail any part of the test.
